McCandless currently serves as coordinator for spiritual nurture for Springdale Presbyterian Church in Louisville, KY and on Mid-Kentucky Presbytery’s nominations and Christian education committees along with serving on the communications committee of the Synod of Living Waters of the PC(USA). A graduate of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and Western Kentucky University, she has lived and served congregations in both small towns and larger cities in Kentucky, Indiana, and Colorado.
McCandless brings a love of people and a love for preaching and worship leadership to this work. As a person of deep faith who places her trust in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, she feels called to be a non-anxious pastoral presence who lives and preaches hope in a world that increasingly seems to be driven by fear.
While she loves her current work, McCandless is looking forward with gratitude and joy to serving these congregations as their pastor. “I’m hopeful that the renewed vision of these worshipping communities and my excitement and preparation for this work will be a dynamic combination that will serve northwestern Ohio well,” she said.
McCandless has also been a semi-professional singer (earning some money, but not a living!) throughout her adult life – most recently as a soloist with the Louisville Master Chorale and the Louisville Bach Society. She enjoys (and sings) all styles of music and looks forward to the opportunity to bring that gift to the churches and community too.
McCandless begins serving the churches on June 1 and on Sunday, June 3 both congregations will worship together at West Bethesda Presbyterian Church at 10:30AM and a potluck luncheon will follow to welcome the Rev. Mary Beth McCandless and her husband, Murray McCandless, to the community. Everyone is invited to meet and welcome our new minister.
